Lining Up Words

  • Daniel C. O’Connell

Abstract

“Lining up words” seems hardly the proper diction to apply to poetry. School children and soldiers are peremptorily told to “line up.” And yet, part of the poet’s writing task is to muster words into poetic forms, to put them down on paper one after another, to line them up.
