Abstract
I wish, in this paper, to explore the idea of applied ethics in medicine as a special type of ongoing conversation and to see how far this “conversation” metaphor can be pushed before it loses its utility. In listening to the preceding papers, I was struck by a number of observations that seem compatible with what I wish to do here. Accordingly, I shall begin by reviewing these observations briefly, to set the stage for what follows.
