Abstract

This chapter discusses the use of the OCIS in the preparation of daily care plans that recommend clinical actions based on predefined protocols. There are relatively few clinical information systems that provide this type of support, and therefore this chapter addresses three issues: What is meant by protocol-directed care? What is the design of an “ideal” system? How does the OCIS support this function? The perspective is limited to the needs of the Oncology Center.
