Abstract
Developing and organizing a consulting practice in environmental management has features distinctive from other professional ventures. These features center on the need for undertaking and integrating interdisciplinary studies* and the resulting complexity of communication between professionals, scientists and technicians, and the public. The management of interdisciplinary activity requires explicit, close attention without which little can be achieved that cannot already be done in conventionally or traditionally organized consulting efforts based on a single discipline. Further, the needed for clear and accurate communication is more acute than in single-discipline endeavors.
