Linear Regression

In many areas of the natural and social sciences the relations between two or more variables are studied. What is the relation between the number of children in a family and the need for housing? Between smoking and longevity? Between intelligence quotient and income? Such questions can be both important and difficult to answer. We cannot discuss here the variety of problems arising in this area; only one model will be considered. We call it a model for simple linear regression.
