Cutaneous Manifestations of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome

  • Chapter
Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Abstract

Numerous skin lesions and skin diseases are associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and it is expected that more lesions will be reported in the future [1,2]. We shall attempt to summarize the skin lesions reported in the literature to mid-year 1987. (Table 22.1) [2]. Some of these lesions may be the first sign of AIDS at any of its stages. It is important, therefore, that the family physician or consulting dermatologist be acquainted with them so that early diagnosis can be achieved.
