Abstract
The following studies involved stability analysis of compressible shear flows, performed by the shear layer study group during the ICASE/NASA Langley Workshop. Studies encompassed linear and nonlinear stability analysis via numerical and asymptotic analysis. Key research issues resulting from the workshop collaboration included effects of farfield boundary conditions on disturbance environment of free shear flows, comparisons of instabilities in a developing wake and a fully developed free shear flow, and an asymptotic analysis to study unsteady shock boundary layer interaction. Group participants include Robert Bowles, University College London; Scott Eberhardt, University of Washington; Thomas Jackson, Old Dominion University; Chester Grosch, Old Dominion University; Michele Macaraeg, NASA Langley Research Center; Xavier Normand, Institut Mecanique de Grenoble; and Dimitrius Papageorgiou, The City College of CUNY. The fruitful collaborative efforts which evolved are summarized below.
