Abstract
Chapter 8 explores another possible explanation for the interaction between legal development level and rule-enforcing conditions in predicting legal socialization effects. In this chapter, we separate our subjects according to their propensity toward rule following or rule violation. We then relate legal development level to their attitudes toward rules and rule-violating behaviors to the rule-enforcing conditions in which they lived during the socialization period and to the kinds of behaviors being controlled. We also consider personality, attitudinal, and demographic measures. Our purpose is to determine whether individual differences account for legal socialization effects.
