Abstract
Since angiography enabled visualization of individual lesions, clinical study results can be analyzed lesion by lesion. In contrast with earlier studies that used clinical endpoints such as myocardial infarction (MI) or coronary heart disease (CHD) death, a new generation of studies underway uses angiographically measured outcome of change in atherosclerotic lesions. Current randomized clinical trials to test the effect of lipid lowering therapy on atherosclerosis include those by Alderman, Blankenhorn, Brown, Buchwald and Havel (1).
