Abstract

Because the interpretation of gastrointestinal mucosal biopsy specimens requires considerable skill, it merits the same specialization within pathology that has been so useful in the interpretation of needle biopsy specimens of the liver, lung, and kidney.1–3 There is no substitute for experience. Thus it is desirable to have a select group of pathologists with a major interest in gastrointestinal histopathology interpret the biopsies.
