Abstract

The HELP system is used at LDS Hospital to schedule patients for elective admissions, to record demographic, insurance, and clinical information in preadmitting and admitting procedures, to keep track of changes in the patient’s location during the hospitalization, and to document the patient’s discharge from the hospital. Similar data are gathered when patients come to LDS Hospital for emergency services, outpatient radiology and outpatient clinic services, and for short-stay (1 day) procedures. The ADT data are used to generate a computerized census nightly. The patient demographic data captured during the admission process are stored in a variety of long- and short-term computerized patient files and are used by many other HELP system programs.
