Abstract
In any of standard textbooks of college physics we may read that the velocity of sound is given by (E/ρ)1/2 where E is the modulus of elasticity for compression and ρ is the density of the medium. It is usually explained that the compressibility modulus is the one associated with adiabatic compression which is equal to S p,where S is the ratio of the specific heat at constant pressure to that at constant volume, and p is the pressure.
