Abstract

In the two years following the first Workshop, we have experienced a significant surge in the capability of numerical simulation of transition phenomena. High-order compact differencing and spectral multi-domain discretization methods have reached a level of maturity as to allow accurate and efficient direct numerical simulations (DNS) for a wide range of incompressible and compressible flows. Additionally, the fundamental concepts leading to reliable non-reflecting outflow boundary conditions are becoming clear, allowing spatial simulations to become viable tools in the investigation of transition physics.
