Abstract
Human females undergo sexual cycles which prepare the reproductive system for pregnancy; these cycles are controlled by the combined action of the hypothalamus, pituitary, ovary and uterus. The ovarian cycle is regulated as a direct response to pituitary gonadotropins, i.e., follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH); the uterine cycle is regulated as a direct response to hormones produced by the ovary (estrogen and progesterone).
