Abstract
This paper provides an overview of proposed fuel injection and flameholding methodologies for incorporation in the combustion chamber of the scramjet engine. These approaches include parallel injection with and without swirl, transverse injection, injection adjacent to a stabilizing step, and the shock-induced mixing concept. Important advantages and disadvantages of the approaches will be discussed in light of fundamental experimental and/or theoretical studies that apply to the specific reacting flow situations. An overview of current modeling efforts at UCLA directed toward representation of the transverse fuel jet in compressible crossflow is also provided.
