Abstract

As a followup on Ed Budding’s statement that his student has compiled a list of light curve synthesis programs, I suggest that a useful outcome of this meeting might be a concerted effort, comparing results of applying those programs in active use to one or more suitable light curves. A difficult region in which considerable work is being done now is systems with unequal components having radiative envelopes with periods in the 0.4–0.7 days range (e.g. V1010 Oph, GR Tau. etc.). Contact systems of the W UMa type have their configurations too closely constrained for critical tests, it seems to me.
