Nursing Decision Support: The Challenges Facing Nursing in Regard to Computerization

  • Chapter
Decision Support Systems in Critical Care

Part of the book series: Computers and Medicine ((C+M))

Abstract

It is the purpose of the authors to acquaint other health care professionals with the evolving role of computers in nursing. With the introduction of computers at the bedside, technology has bolstered the nurse’s ability to collect, correlate, interpret, and monitor thousands of pieces of information per patient. The computer provides immediate access to information that will complement the nurse’s decision-making process.
