Abstract

The University of Athens, Greeceā€™s first university, was established in 1837, only 7 years after the end of the War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire, a harsh battle that lasted 9 years. In 1837, the medical school was founded, with Greek professors coming from European universities. Dermatology and venereology were initially taught to a limited degree by professors of hygiene and, afterward by surgeons.
