Abstract
CHANGES IN THE TYPES OF PATIENT REQUESTS AND THE NEW techniques of skin rejuvenation make the midface lift worthy of a complete chapter. The typical face lift patient has inelastic skin, bowing of the submental triangle platysma, jowl fat deposits, and general deterioration with descent of eyebrows, midcheeks, and even the neck to the clavicle. The candidate for the midface lift is a young individual who has practiced good skin care. The changes are simple removal of jowl fat deposits with a “slide” of the subcutaneous musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) area of the midcheek. Many candidates have no loose skin under the neck, and others have only a small amount, which can be corrected by extension behind the ear. The patients generally follow instructions for postsurgical skin care. We have been able to maintain the tightness in younger individuals for many years longer than the average full face lift patient with our home programs and light chemical peels.
