Abstract
Generally speaking, module subprograms and external subprograms provide adequate facilities for partitioning programs. However, for a subprogram that is so specialized that it is referenced in only a single routine, it is sometimes convenient to employ Fortran 90’s third category of subprogram, the “internal subprogram.” The internal subprogram can be an effective mechanism for avoiding repetitive segments of code and awkward control structures involving GO TO statements.
