Abstract

Diagnostic problems in clinical medicine are approached by collecting detailed information and drawing inferences about the underlying causes. The clinical interview is a fruitful source of data but, like other sources, its findings are not self-explanatory; rather, they are understood by processes of judgment and reasoning.
