Security problems can arise in a variety of ways, from a variety of sources. There are external threats, such as remote hackers; internal threats, such as malicious local users; and even passive threats, such a hyperlinks that cause bugs in browsers to execute local commands. Servers, clients, and their network interaction form a complicated system that inevitably has bugs or unintended uses. It is not a matter of whether the system has holes, but of when they will be discovered and by whom.
