Convection in 3 He-Superfluid-4 He: A Novel System for Studying Convective Instabilities and Turbulence

Abstract

Mixtures of 3He in superfluid 4He provide an interesting and potentially important system for testing theories of convection and for studying turbulent convective flow. We will briefly review the properties of these mixtures and why they might be interesting for studying large Rayleigh number turbulent convection. We will then briefly discuss some of the recent findings for this system.
