The hackberry tree in which Lotor sleeps is immensely strong and heavy. In the large, its strength derives from the structure of annual cylinders, nested each within the next like Russian dolls. In the small, its strength depends on a polymer called lignin, the essence of wood. These strengths, structural and molecular, are common to all trees: root, trunk, and branch.
