Abstract
Southward along a line of longitude our research ship steamed, halfway between Africa and South America. That day we were to cross a line supposedly visible only on maps. Certificates would be handed out several days later, when a lull in the busy schedule allowed all on board to gather as a group. But before celebration comes initiation.
