Abstract

There is now a great deal of ongoing work on multimedia systems… within the database community, as well as outside it. All of these works, without exception, deal with integration of specific types of media data; for example, there are systems that integrate certain compressed video-representation schemes with other compressed audio-representation schemes. However, to date there seems [to be] no unifying framework for integrating multimedia data which is independent of both the specific medium and its storage.
