Abstract
Breast ultrasonography has been utilized for several decades to augment findings by physicians on mammography and clinical examinations. Early breast ultrasonography was limited in its utility. The technology was rudimentary and the results not particularly beneficial. Patients were placed supine in a waterbath, and sector imaging was performed with fairly insensitive imaging equipment. Tremendous advances have occurred since the early 1990s in technology and our ability to understand and appreciate the utility of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool.
