Abstract

Advances in molecular biology now allow for the transfer of genes to target cells that can evoke specific biological responses with possible applications for the treatment of clinical orthopaedic problems. The purpose of this review is to discuss such potential uses of gene therapy in hard tissues, specifically in diseases related to bone and cartilage.
