Abstract
Social problems that arise from conflict between people, from substance abuse, and from safety hazards can disrupt any stage of life. Elderly people are no exception, and yet they may fall more catastrophically victim to some of these difficulties. As with other aspects of health and illness, the special problems older people encounter here involve frailty, and the disability and vulnerability that accompany it. Like illness, many social difficulties do not present themselves to us as readily and as neatly as they do in younger,“typical” patients.
