Abstract
I am assuming Emacs is your text editor.1 There’s probably AucTeX code in your˜/. emacs file, which came with the Linux distribution. AucTeX is written in Lisp, as are all Emacs.emacs macros. It adds useful editing and debugging commands. When Emacs is in Latex mode, AucTeX will run a region or the whole of the current file through Latex; it will locate the Latex commands in the file and lists them with line numbers; it can jump directly to view or print the document. This is some typical code.
Article FootNote
It makes no difference to Latex whether you write in Emacs or in some other plain-text processor. But the rest of this chapter on keying commands is Emacs-depndent.
