Abstract

The previous chapter sketched some of the items in the large font wardrobe that is an integral part of the Linux distribution. For us to handle these various fonts successfully—to be able to mix them and match them to get a particular `look’ in the text—depends in large measure on (1) whether or not the fonts are currently in memory; (2) whether or not we are dealing with standard or nonstandard codes, or a mixture of the two; and (3) whether the fonts are being used in text mode or math mode.
