Abstract

All formatting languages provide you with the means to display and/or print a text file that you have written under the aegis of a word processor such as WordPerfect or a text editor such as Emacs. All formatting languages more or less provide you with a repertoire of commands that clothe the text in various fonts, differentiate one piece of text from an adjoining piece of text, and locate a unit of text where you want to see it on the page.
