  • David B. Lawrence

Abstract

This introductory chapter lays out a basic framework for the evaluation of information and information systems; subsequent chapters provide increasing generality and detail. The chapter presents the vocabulary of the book: the basic definitions, categorizations, and institutional descriptions upon which the sequel builds. It also previews the book’s analytical approach and discusses some examples of real-world applicability. The introduction ends by applying the framework to a broader social science context, providing perspective for recent events in the information economy.
