Abstract

In the previous Lecture, I made a formal calculation of part of the time dependence of the dynamic structure factors g(1)(k, t) and g (1) s (k, t).The calculation was limited to lowest order in concentration (pair interactions), second order in scattering vector k, and first order in time (first cumulant in a time cumulant expansion). I obtained for the first cumulant of g(1)(k, t) and for the first cumulant of g (1) s (k,t)

  6. As a canal boat moves forward, the water being displaced by the boat must move rearward around the boat. The shallower the canal is, the less space there is for the water to move backward, the faster the water must move to attain a given volume flow of water, and the greater will be the frictional force retarding the forward motion of the boat. The rate at which a horse-drawn canal boat can move is determined by the depth of the water, which becomes a major factor in canal economics.
