Normal Variations of the Skull and Its Contents

  • Chapter
Neuroimaging

Abstract

This chapter will cover several normal anatomic findings and variations of normal cranial computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which occasionally are misdiagnosed as abnormalities, particularly by the more junior radiology resident struggling in the trenches during after-hours call. Some of these normal variants have at one time or another also confused more senior radiologists, the author included, and it is hoped that this chapter contains useful tidbits for professionals at all levels of training, from the neophyte to the veteran.
