Abstract
Mr. Liouville’s numerous and important works are especially concerned with various branches of pure analysis, with transcendental functions, the theory of numbers and with the applications of infinitesimal analysis to astronomy and mathematical physics. However, in these works, one often finds results of interest to geometry, results that even directly concern the theory of surfaces, and views which, having given rise to new researches, have contributed to the progress of the science.
