Abstract
This chapter is something of a diversion from the main line of the book, so at the first reading some readers may wish to skip it. The concepts introduced in the first half of Section 3 will be used in Section 2 of Chapter VIII, and in Chapter IX we shall return to electrical networks, when we connect them with random walks.
