Abstract

The development of electromagnetic theory differs remarkably from that of mechanics. The reason is probably that mechanics has changed little in time. After creating a self-contained logical conceptual system, a language to describe forces and movement, and after the finding of the basic laws, that permitted one to calculate the different mechanical experiences in a precise way, it was essentially complete.
