Abstract
The peripheral and low central innervations of the genital and lower urinary tracts are similar. Both areas receive sympathetic, parasym-pathetic, and somatic innervation from identical or adjacent thoracolumbar and sacral cord areas. Major afferent pathways are shared or closely related (1-3), and it is not surprising, therefore, that urologic disease processes initiated by neural lesions adversely influence sexual function.
