The Role of IVIG in the Management of Patients with Antiphospholipid Antibodies and Recurrent Pregnancy Losses

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Allergy and Immunology ((ALIM,volume 2))

Abstract

The management of connective-tissue diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), can often be as daunting as the disease itself. The prospect of early cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and aseptic necrosis as a consequence of long-term corticoste- roid therapy is overshadowed only by the possibility of sterility and/ or neoplasia resulting from the immunosuppressive agents we have in use today. New therapies must be found, and recent reports have suggested that intravenous immune serum globulin (IVIG) may be an option (14).
