Abstract
From a technical, medical point of view, migraine is commonly called a “benign” disorder, meaning that it is not life-threatening. Somehow, although intellectually understanding the basic intent of that label, I have always found it rather insensitive. It’s very difficult for anyone who has experienced the excruciating pain and disability of severe migraine even to think of that experience in the same breath as the word “benign.” I guess, at least emotionally, that designation represents for me the ultimate oxymoron.
