Abstract
Driving while under the influence of alcohol, being involved in automobile accidents, and engaging in precocious and/or unprotected sexual intercourse are some of the myriad of problems associated with adolescent alcohol consumption. In the past, such problems were considered to be primarily an urban phenomenon.’ Over the past decade, however, ample evidence has shown that these problems have spread to rural America. For example, between 1982 and 1988 the number of 15-24 yr olds in Iowa dropped from 260,000 to 201,000, but the number of fatal motor vehicle accidents involving adolescents remained stable.
