Abstract
We introduce in this chapter the basic concepts of conservation laws, which include discontinuous solutions, the jump (Rankine-Hugoniot) relation, entropy conditions, shock and rarefaction waves, and a simple numerical scheme called the Lax-Friedrichs scheme.
