The Perception of Quality

Abstract

Different people tend to perceive the events around them in different ways. This tendency is a result of their personalities and their differing backgrounds and experiences. It is also a result of how we, as individuals, process various stimuli. Perception is a process where a person selects, organizes, identifies and interprets the sensory information he receives in order to understand his environment. Perceptions act as filters, thus preventing us from being overwhelmed by all of the noise (stimuli) around us. Perceptions can be shaped by learning, memory, and expectations. Our perceptual systems also enable us to see the world around us as stable, even when the stimulus we receive is incomplete and/or changing.
