The menisci are intra-articular fibrocartilaginous structures that have multiple functions, including shock absorption, control of anterior tibial translation, lubrication of the joint, and possibly proprioception. Owing to its many functions and the risk of meniscectomy-associated osteoarthritis, the management of meniscal tears should include “meniscus-preserving” procedures wherever possible.
