Infertility and Uterine Artery Embolisation

  • Chapter
Reproductive Surgery in Assisted Conception

Abstract

Uterine arterial embolisation is an established non-surgical image-guided treatment for symptomatic uterine leiomyomas as an alternative to myomectomy or hysterectomy. In patients wishing to conserve the uterus for pregnancy then uterine arterial embolization offers a potential alternative to myomectomy. Recent results indicate favourable results compared to myomectomy in such patients. However controversy remains in relation to the long-term effects of uterine arterial embolization on fertility.
