Abstract

Canonical forms for conics are given, and tangents and ‘polarity’ are introduced. Various metric planes are derived from the projective plane by specializing an ‘absolute conic’. Pascal’s hexagrammum mysticum and the extended Pascal configuration of 60 Pascal lines are discussed. Quadric surfaces are introduced and their affine classification is discussed. Various kinds of metric space are derived from projective 3-space containing a specialized ‘absolute quadric’.
