Abstract
This chapter attempts to understand some of the social and organization problems that confront online environmental communication in two areas: credibility of content, and the design and management of multidisciplinary systems. This chapter approaches these both as knowledge work, where trust and credibility are critical. Using the perspectives of science studies and science and technology studies, I suggest that it is useful to see tensions in online environmental systems as resulting from crossing epistemic cultures.
