Abstract
The previous chapter has demonstrated the flexibility of AutoLISP and the open nature of AutoCAD which allows new commands to be developed. AutoCAD owes much of its success to this openness as it has spawned a whole industry of third party software developers dedicated to enhancing and customising the package. The range of add-on software for AutoCAD is vast and covers most engineering and architectural disciplines. It includes simple things like extra text fonts and menus, to numerical control programs for machine tools.
