Abstract
A new generalised mechanism is described for event distribution in system architectures involving multiple threads and a hierarchy of graphical or non-graphical elements. Comparison is made with the mechanisms provided in existing windowing systems and examples are given of how the new mechanism would be used in the construction of various applications.
